A Lost Check Found And Returned in Short Order
Noteworthies about Swampscott for Sept. 26.

Here is a short story from Betty Holmes of Swampscott, a local writer and member of the Swampscott Historical Society.
Last Friday afternoon I saw on the floor of the supermarket what looked to me like an endorsed check. I picked it up, turned it over. It was made out to cash  for one thousand dollars!  Gulp!!  I went to the service desk and had them page the name on the face of the check, but no one responded. I told them I'd call the person who's name was on the check. For a few more minutes, I stayed near the service desk and suddenly in through the door to the store came a desperate woman, yelling. "Did anyone find it? Did anyone find it?"  I asked, "Did you lose something?"  "Yes, I dropped a check."  I asked, "Who are you?" She told me her name. "Well, I found your check on the floor and here it is."  I got a very big hug.  I told her she should never endorse  a check until she is ready to cash it.
She got my advice whether or not she wanted it. Â My Dad warned me, "Never give advice unless t hey ask for it. And even if they ask for it, don't expect them to take it."
