Boy Who Drowned in Walden Pond Identified

Rescuers pulled the boy from the water Sunday afternoon, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Saugus, MA – The 13-year-old boy who drowned in Walden Pond in Saugus Sunday afternoon has been identified.

According to a report from WHDH, the victim was Angel Capellan Rodriquez of Lynn.

Saugus police received a call regarding a swimmer in distress at about 1:56 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Shortly after 2:30 p.m., firefighters who arrived on the scene found the boy's body submerged beneath the surface of the water, according to Police Chief Domenic DiMella.

Firefighters started CPR immediately, and the boy was transported to Union Hospital in Lynn. At about 5 p.m., the Essex County District Attorney's Office announced that the boy had died.
