Clarice Neumann: Active Civic Leader, Law School Pioneer
Clarice Neumann made her home in Swampscott for almost 57 years.

Clarice Neumann died on March 8. She was 95.
Neumann lived in Swampscott for nearly 57 years and actively participated in her community, serving on the board of Essexbank and as president of the Lynn YMCA; helping create the METCO program; working pro bono as an attorney for low-income families; running Housing Opportunities Inc., which integrated families in affordable housing in Lynn; and establishing the Swampscott Fish House on the National Register of Historic Buildings.
She was honored with the 16th Annual Lynn Item Brotherhood Award and was named Woman of the Year.

Neumann was also one of the first women to study at Yale Law School.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gerhard Neumann, former vice president and group executive of General Electric. Neumann is survived by three children, nine grandchlidren, two great-grandchildren and her older sister.
