Endangered Right Whale Spotted Off Coast of Nahant on Tuesday

There are believed to be only about 500 North Atlantic right whales in existence.

Swampscott, MA - An endangered right whale was spotted near the waters of Swampscott off the coast of Nahant on Tuesday.

A number of residents saw the North Atlantic right whale throughout the afternoon, according to WHDH/7 News.

Marine experts believe the whale came up from Cape Cod Bay. There are only about 500 North Atlantic right whales in existence.

New England Aquarium spokesman Tony LaCasse told The Boston Globe that the North Atlantic right whale is the most endangered species of large whales in the Atlantic.
