Festa Italiana and Local Legs in the Falmouth Road Race

A heads-up on goings-on in the Swampscott area today and later this week.

1. FESTA Italiana: Holy Family Church in Lynn, 26 Bessom St., the home to several of Ocean Bay's Girl Scout troops as well an annual cookie swap, is having its annual FESTA Italiana on August 8-10.  The event promises to be lots of fun with a special "Kids Day" theme on Saturday from 12-4.  Entertainment provided by "Sea Bees" of Swampscott on Thursday evening, a yet-to-be-announced act on Friday evening and dance presentations from "Donna's Dance" and a visit from "Elvis" on Saturday evening.

2. Weather Watch: 

Tuesday's forecast calls for sunshine and a high temperature of 75.

3. Historical Commission: 

The Swampscott Historical Commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Town Hall in the second-floor conference room.

4. Swampscott Sports: Swampscott will be well represented in the New Balance Falmouth Road Race, Sunday, Aug, 11. These Swampscott residents will be among the more than 11,000 runners competing in the seven-mike race:

Kaleigh Barbuzzi, Christopher Glynn, Caitlin Hurley, Sean Keaney, Edward "Ted" Kennedy, Kathleen McLaughlin, Alison Michigan, Gregory Michigan, Matthew Roddy and Marc Stern

The race starts in from Woods Hole Community Center and finishes in Falmouth Heights. The race goes around the historic Nobska Lighthouse and take the scenic route next to the waters of Vineyard Sound. 

5. A free concert by the Jessica Prouty Band at Marblehead's Devereux Beach:

The Jessica Prouty Band will perform at Devereux Beach Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 5:30 pm. The concert is free and open to the public.  Three members of the Jessica Prouty Band currently attend or attended Berklee College of Music in Boston.
