What: Fireworks
Where: Boston Common
When: July 4, 10:30 p.m.
All eyes will be on Boston for the return of fireworks there as most communities have canceled their displays, mostly due to a lack of planning time and an unwillingness to host so many people right now.
The fireworks are at Boston Common, not the Esplanade, and will follow the Boston Pops' 8 p.m. performance in Tanglewood, a music venue in Western Massachusetts.
In recent years, many Swampscott residents have gone to Salem or Lynn for holiday fireworks, but both cities elected to postpone or cancel their shows earlier this spring because of uncertainty around coronavirus-related capacity restrictions.
Yet, while there will be no neighboring fireworks, Swampscott will host its 78th Horribles Parade on Sunday morning through the Shawk Improvement Association.
The nearest fireworks will be Monday night at 9:30 over Gloucester harbor.
