Fox Hill Bridge Remains Closed For Malfunction

The bridge, which carries traffic over the Saugus River on Route 107, will be evaluated Monday evening.

LYNN, MA — The Belden Bly Bridge - also known as the Fox Hill Drawbridge - remains closed due to mechanical issues, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said Monday afternoon. The bridge carries traffic across the Saugus River between Saugus and Lynn on Route 107.

Crews are expected to lower the bridge Tuesday evening, when engineers will then evaluate its condition and determine the next step.

Detour routes include Summer Street, Lincoln Avenue, Ballard Street and Boston Street. MBTA bus routes 450 and 444 will be detoured off Western Ave. Routes 424, 434, 450, 455, and 459 will also be detoured.

The bridge malfunctioned early Sunday evening due to a problem with one of the steel roped used to operator the bridge.

MassDOT has had plans to replace the bridge. The design of the project - estimated to cost $80 million - is almost complete. It will be advertised for construction bids early next year
