Help Wanted: Swampscott Schools Need Volunteers To Open Fully

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott Public Schools needs help reopening classrooms to students five days a week this spring.

With additional staffing needed for things such as monitoring mask breaks and snack breaks amid the coronavirus crisis, the district is looking for volunteers to help cover areas it cannot at current staffing levels so it can fully reopen schools.

"We have been working feverishly since the last School Committee meeting on Feb. 24 to develop a timeline and plan to bring our students back for in-person learning by the first full week in April, as directed by both the Governor and the Commissioner of Education," Swampscott Superintendent of Schools Pamela Angelakis said in a letter to families on Friday. "As truly excited as my team and I are to move forward with these plans, we are thoughtful, methodical, and cautious with all our decisions."

Angelakis said details of the return-to-classroom plan will be revealed during Wednesday's school committee meeting.

Those willing to volunteer will need to be fingerprinted and return a confidentiality form with a CORI check.
