The Swampscott High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee proposes naming the high school gym after Richsrd "Dick" Lynch.
Hall of Fame representatives Jack Taymore and William Bush presented the naming proposal to the Swampscott School Committee on Tuesday.
Richard Lynch was a teacher and coach who has had a tremendous positive influence in making the Swampscott School District one of the most respected on the North Shore, the Hall of Fame representatives told the committee.
Committee members welcomed the idea
They also said they want to follow the town protocol for naming a local public resource.
That is to invite comment from the public before approving a naming proposal.
The committee made the proposal a first reading, of sorts, and plan to take it up in two weeks.
