Mid-day High Tide on DPW's Radar

High tide at 11:14 a.m. Thursday wasn't bad in Swampscott Thursday, with only a little spillover along Humphrey Street.

But the next two high tides bear increasing vigilance, said DPW Director Gino Cresta. The storm surge coupled with astronomical high tides increase the chances of coastal flooding.

Crews will keep an eye on trouble spots along the Swampscott coast including areas around King's Beach, Fisherman's Beach and Preston Beach.

If necessary the crews will break off plowing operations and set up barriers to close down traffic, the director said.

DPW has 15 employees out battling the storm, assisted by 22 contractors, he said.

Seven of the 15 workers have been plowing and salting and sanding since 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

The director estimated late Thursday night that the work would continue through 5 p.m. Friday. 

Most of the workers were to plow through the night.
