Monday Essentials: Police Open House, Authors Forum and School Library Talk

Noteworthy goings-on in the coming week.

Here are five gatherings and meetings to connect you to your town and each other in the coming week.

1.) An open house at the new police station on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. Below are the details courtesy of the Swampscott Police Department:

The Swampscott Police Department would like to thank the residents and businesses in the Town of Swampscott for all of their well wishes and support relative to the building and opening of the new police station.

The Swampscott Police Department will be opening their doors to the public at an open house on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. at 531 Humphrey Street, Swampscott, Mass.

All residents are invited to come by for a fun-filled and informative tour through the police station. In addition to the station tours you will also have a chance to see the equipment and tools that are used by police officers including police cars and motorcycles.

The police department is offering crime prevention information and goodies for each child.  The tours will begin every l5 minutes beginning at 12:00 Noon up until 2:00 p.m.

Light snacks and beverages will be served.

2.) At Tuesday's School Committee meeting, 7 p.m. at Swampscott High in Room B208, hear how school librarians help students sharpen and deepen research and other skills. State Sen. Tom McGee will be at the meeting.

3.) On Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Swampscott library hear four successful authors talk about their craft. 

4.) On Wednesday, watch your Boston Red Sox open the 2013 World Series at home in Game 1 against the St. Louis Cardinals on FOX.

5.) Also on Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. at Warwick Place, 123 Pleasant St., Marblehead, see a documentary on the reality of breast cancer and what people are doing to end the epidemic.
