- Bideew Bou Bess, a popular hip-hop band from Senegal, and American percussionist Tony Vacca will perform a free concert on November 7 at 6:30 pm at the Swampscott High School auditorium. Stanley Elementary School students will play drumming rhythms learned during workshops with Vacca and the group.
Bideew Bou Bess blends hip-hop with traditional West African melodies. The three brothers incorporate lyrics describing their vision for 21st century Africa.
The Stanley School PTO funded the concert and workshops.
- Thursday Nov. 7, at 7 pm the Swampscott Public Library will present a program on digital safety. This presentation covers topics including: the way college admissions officers and employers use information from Facebook or Google to assess applicants; risks associated with location “metadata” contained in pictures uploaded to Facebook; the legal troubles that kids can face from online pranks (or intentionally hurtful behavior); consequences of cyberbullying, sexting/sextortion dangers; and more. This program, designed for all ages, will be presented by the Merrimack Analysis Group.
