More Changes Coming To Swampscott's Walker Road Thursday

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — They tried one way. Then they tried the other way. Now it's time to go round and round at Walker Road in Swampscott.

After alternating Walker Road as a one-way street over the past month, starting Thursday the traffic pattern at Walker Road and Banks Road will become a temporary rotary — also called a "peanut-about" —as the town continues to examine ways to prioritize pedestrian traffic in the area.

That new pattern will be in place until July 9.

Traffic barrels and signs will be in place to provide additional reminders to stop or yield when entering the temporary rotary.

The town said the data collected and the analysis of data will assist it in understanding traffic flow within this neighborhood, and to plan for road and traffic improvements.

Following the final phase of the pattern project a community meeting will be held to share the data and discuss next steps.

Select Board approval is required for any long-term changes to the traffic pattern.
