NSMC Receives $500,000 in support of Cardiology

SALEM, Mass. (March 2, 2020) North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) today announced that longtime Marblehead residents Gordon and Taffy Hall have committed a gift of $500,000 in support of the Department of Cardiology. In recognition of this gift, the cardiac facilities at NSMC Salem Hospital will be renamed the Hall Family Heart Center.

“Gordon’s gift is especially meaningful in a field like cardiology that is always evolving, said President and CEO and Cardiologist David J. Roberts, M.D. Cardiology is a technology-driven subspecialty, and the speed of advances requires significant, continual investments in new and upgraded equipment. Having this kind of directed support enables us to stay at the forefront of treatment for the patients in this community.”

Mr. Hall underwent several cardiac procedures over the past 20 years under the care of Dr. Roberts. Mr. Hall’s treatment included the full spectrum of leading-edge care offered by NSMC and the seamless collaboration between cardiac specialists at NSMC and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Thanks to this combination of medical expertise, state-of-the-art technology and his own exceptional physical conditioning, Hall was able to avoid surgery and a lengthy recovery that might have slowed him down. Instead he never missed a beat. “Gratitude is a powerful motivator, he says. “Dr. Roberts and NSMC not only provided the best treatment and most comfortable care I’ve ever had but also made it possible for me to keep doing the things I love.”

Coincident with the news of the Hall’s gift, NSMC announced the renovation of the Cardiac Catherization Laboratory on the Salem Campus. “When a patient has a heart attack, the Cath Lab is where we take them for procedures that reopen blocked arteries and restore blood flow and function to the heart. With this generous gift, the unit will be renovated to improve patient privacy and the overall patient experience,” said Dr. Roberts.
