Phillips Beach Trash Policy Remains Work in Progress

Here are five things to know today in Swampscott.

1. What About Carry In Carry Out: At their most recent meeting, July 17, a majority of the Board of Selectmen said they thought the carry in carry out pilot trash program at Phillips Beach was working, though a work in progress. 

Member Glenn Kessler said he did not know that he agreed that the program was a success and it needs to be looked at further.

It appears that will happen.

Town Administrator Tom Younger said at the July 17, meeting that he has been keeping an eye on the beach trash situation and that he will continue to review it and come back at later time with a recommendation on whether to make carry in carry out permanent.

2. Weather Watch: Thursday is expected to bring a chance of showers and a high temperature of 70.

3. Student News: Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, Conn., announced that Matthew Gadman made the Dean's List for the spring semester in 2013. To receive this honor, a student must achieve a 3.6 grade average, based on a 4.0 scale.

4. Town Meeting: The Harbor and Waterfront Advisory Committee meets Thursday, July 25, at 8:30 am in the second floor conference room at Town Hall

5. Fantastic: Starting Friday, Marblehead Little Theatre will present what sounds to be an enchanting drama that they first brought to the stage more than 50 years ago — The Fantasticks.
