Restaurant Owner From Swampscott Gets 3 Months For Tax Evasion

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — A federal judge sentenced a former Swampscott resident to three months in prison Thursday for tax evasion. Steve Konis, 70, had pleaded guilty to the charges in July. Federal prosecutors say Konis did not report $800,000 in income from his restaurant, Giovanni's Roast Beef and Pizza in Saugus, between 2012 and 2016.
Konis was also fined $100,000 and ordered to pay pay $178,000 in back taxes. He will serve two years of supervised release after he completes his three-month prison term.
