School Committee to Talk Graduation Requirement and Open Campus Tuesday
Essential things to know about Swampscott today.

1. School Doings: School Committee members will talk about possible changes to high school graduation requirements and hold a first reading of an open campus policy when they meet on Tuesday.
The July 30, meeting start at 7 p.m. in room B208 at the high school.
Earlier, the committee referred proposed changes to open campus and graduation credits to a policy subcommittee to gather more information.

The committee has heard arguments for and against open campus privileges. These privileges allow seniors to leave school grounds when they do not have a class.
As far as the change to credits needed to graduate goes, the change would increase students' minimum credits.

In an earlier policy discussion, committee members talked about an increase to students' minimum credits needed to graduate.
The policy talks also introduced the idea of students taking at least six classes each semester, instead of at least five classes.

3. Town Seeking Volunteers for Permanent Athletic Field Study Committee:
- Charge of the Permanent Athletic Field Study Committee Â
- Review the current availability of athletic fields in the Town of Swampscott;
- Determine the facility needs of the town’s various recreation programs;
- Analyze the adequacy of the current inventory of facilities to meet current and future demands; and
- Make recommendations on how to address any current and future unmet needs.

4. Student News:  Ana Echevarria-Morales of Swampscott, MA, has been named to the 2013 spring semester Dean's List at Ohio Wesleyan University.
To qualify for Dean's List recognition, Ohio Wesleyan students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes.
5. Fantastic: Starting Friday, Marblehead Little Theatre will present what sounds to be an enchanting drama that they first brought to the stage more than 50 years ago — The Fantasticks.
