Swampscott Cultural Council Seeks Funding Proposals

The Swampscott Cultural Council, which seeks to enhance the quality of life for Swampscott residents by promoting and funding community cultural activities, has set an Oct. 15th postmark deadline for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community. 

According to Council Chair Wendy Frisch, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Swampscott, including exhibits, festivals, field trips, concerts, short-term artist residencies or performances in schools, workshops and lectures. 

The Swampscott Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year.

The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community. This year, the Swampscott Cultural Council will distribute about $4,250 in grants, with typical grant awards between $200 and $500.
 
A few of the previously funded projects include: a variety of programs at the Swampscott Public Library, Concerts by the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra, a gardening and landscaping lecture, Tony Vacca’s music workshop at Hadley School, and Julia Thacker’s poetry residency at Stanley School.
