Swampscott Girls Dance Into Our Hearts With Selfless Act

A young dance group showed support for a fellow member after a scheduling change made her miss their performance.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA – A girls' dance group turned stereotypes about competitive dance on its head recently when they came together for one of their members.

Members of All About Dance, a dance group in Swampscott, participated in the Starpower Dance Competition in Andover recently. While competitions usually run late, this one ran more than an hour ahead of schedule, according to a social media post. Many dancers had to rush to get to their performances, after an accident on the way to the competition slowed traffic.

One member of the Junior A Jazz group arrived just as her performance was ending. Having missed her performance, she was inconsolable, but the post said her teammates wouldn't leave her side.

The performance won first place in their category, and an invitation to perform at the international competition in New Jersey, but the young dancer didn't want to go up to accept the award after she didn't perform. Her team told her that if she didn't go, none of them would. They also decided that she would be the one to accept the award on behalf of the team.

The post said this action is one of many selfless displays in the studio.

"Love my girls," said All About Dance owner Lisa Faia. "They are great role models for all of us! As my Nana would say, "A little kindness goes a long way.'"
