Swampscott Election: Spellios Survives Select Board Challenge

Paster elected to the School Committee in a very tight contest, McClung back as Town Moderator, Hartmann returns to the Board of Health.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Peter Spellios will return to the Swampscott Select Board as he survived a stern challenge from Mary Webster in the annual town election.

Spellios received 1,142 out of 2,270 votes (50.3 percent) in unofficial results, with Webster coming within 56 votes of the incumbent at 1,086 votes (47.8 percent).

Glenn Pastor was able to beat Colin Codner for an open School Committee post in a very tight race decided by just 15 votes with 994 to Codner's 979. There were 270 blank votes and seven write-ins in that race.

Incumbent Michael McClung beat Charlie Patsios for the Town Moderator position with 1,306 votes to Patsios' 867.

Board of Health Chair Marianne Hartmann beat George Potts to retain her seat to round out this year's contested positions. She received 1,557 votes to 469 for Potts.

"Thank you, Swampscott for electing me for and trusting me with another term on your Select Board!" Spellios posted on social media about 9:30 Tuesday night. "Your support fuels the passion required for progress. I will not let you down. Thank you Mary Webster for all of your contributions to our town!"

Spellios also congratulated Hartmann, Paster and McClung on their victories.

Voters also chose town meeting members on Tuesday and in the early and mail-in voting leading up to election day.
