The Swampscott High field hockey team won a nail-biter, 1-0, against Wayland Wednesday to advance to the next round in the post season.
The game winner came from Annie Kane, who scored on a rebounded shot off the Wayland goalie with 7:20 to go in the first half.
"It was a text-book shot," said coach Toby Channen.
It was a text book the team has been studying, since they recently worked on that very play at practice the coach said.
The original shot, and the assist, came from Victoria Himaras' stick.
The coach called the victory huge.
At the other end of the field, Swampscott goalie Katie Papele turned away 15 Wayland shots.
The coach was proud of the way the rookie goalie played. She has worked very hard and the work has paid dividends.
"She kept her cool," the coach said.
The whole team kept their cool against a good Wayland team, playing on the slick grass surface at Phillips Park.
The team plays next on Friday at home against the winner of the Gloucester and Tewksbury game.
Swampscott finsihed the season with a 12-3-2 record.
