Swampscott Firefighters To Fill The Boot Remotely

Swampscott Fire Local 1459 set up a code outside the station that can be scanned on a cell phone to make a muscular dystrophy donation.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA —While Swampscott firefighters won't be able to be familiar sites around town asking residents to help "Fill the Boot" to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association this year due to the coronavirus, they are looking to try to support MDA research however they can this fall.

That means holding it remotely.

Swampscott Firefighters Union Local 1459 has set up a fundraiser page as well as posting a code outside the station that people can scan with their cell phones to make a donation.

Firefighters across the country have conducted annual drives to raise money for the MDA since 1954.

"We thank you for the support in the past and hope this year will be no different," the firefighters union said.
