Swampscott Launches Rain Barrel Program

Residents can get rain barrels at a discounted price as part of a program designed to conserve water and save money on water bills.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Swampscott residents can get discounted rain barrels to conserve water and save money on their water bills as part of a new program.

The town is partnering with Great American Rain Barrel to provide residents with the opportunity to buy rain barrels for June pickup.

The town said the benefits of a rain barrel are that water bills decrease by up to 40 percent, they provide an alternative source of water during summer restrictions, provide a healthy, chlorine and chemical-free water source for plants and gardens, improve residential storm management, slow pollution from runoff and save energy at treatment plants through lowering demand.
