Swampscott Mourns Loss Of Town 'Icon' Valerie Foresta

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral expenses for the popular face of Cindy's Pizza.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA – Swampscott police, along with close friends throughout the town, are mourning the loss of Valerie Foresta this week after the popular and friendly face of Cindy’s Pizza died unexpectedly. She was 49 years old.

"With great sadness," Swampscott police posted in a tribute on their Facebook page, "the Swampscott Police Department says goodbye to a friend.

"Val was an icon within the Swampscott Community and with many of our children as the 'girl at Cindy's.' Val had many friends here at the department and she will be greatly missed."

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Foresta's family and to help pay for funeral expenses.

"Val was loved by so many," the page states. "She was a staple in our community and she leaves a void that cannot be filled. Her love for her family and friends ran deep and knew no bounds. She treated strangers, customers and everyone she met with kindness and respect.

"She was upbeat, loud, quirky and loving. Her outgoing presence was larger than life, literally!!"

In the first two days of the GoFundMe page, it surpassed its $30,000 goal and stood at $32,968 as of Tuesday afternoon.

In the two days following the Swampscott police tribute post, that received 373 reactions and 51 comments from family and friends throughout the town and the North Shore.

"There is a hole among us," police said.
