Swampscott Officers Chase Down Suspects

Swampscott Police officers chased down two suspects accused on breaking into and entering cars Monday.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA – Three people – including one juvenile – were arrested on Monday around 4 a.m. after a resident saw three people break into a car in a driveway on Longwood Drive.

After a brief foot chase, Officers Mike Serino, Rick Alex, and John Loyte arrested the suspects, who may have also broken into cars on Paradise Road, according to a statement from Swampscott Police.

Karaillyn Delacruz, 20, of Lynn, and Cody Whitney, 20, of Lynn, were arrested on three counts of breaking and entering a vehicle and attempting to commit a crime. Whitney was also arrested on charges of possession of a knife over 2 1/2 inches.

A 16-year-old juvenile was also arrested on charges of three counts of breaking and entering a car, attempting to commit a crime, and possession of a knife over 2 1/2 inches.

"Once again it shows the incredible job our early morning officers do," read the statement from Swampscott Police. "Time and time again they chase down suspects during the early morning hours when it is often hard to find a needle in a haystack due to darkness."

Residents are urged to lock their cars, and take valuables inside.
