Swampscott Police Department Seeks State Accreditation

Swampscott Police is going after one of the highest standards of professionalism in law enforcement.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA – The Swampscott Police Department announced early Wednesday that they would seek accreditation from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. A team of assessors from the commission is expected to start examining the police department's policies and procedures in late September, according to the Facebook post.

Accreditation is a voluntary process to affirm the department's standards in operations and facilities. According to the post, the program has 257 mandatory standards, and 125 optional standards. To achieve accreditation, departments must meet all mandatory standards, and 55 percent of the optional standards.

"Achieving Accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence," said the post.
