Swampscott Police Issue Speed Limit Reminder

The speed limit on town roads where a speed isn't posted is now automatically 25 mph.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA – Swampscott Police issued a reminder of the town's new default speed limit on Friday. In May, a town meeting voted to reduce the automatic speed limit in Swampscott from 30 mph to 25 mph.

In other words, when driving on a town road (not a state road) where a speed isn't posted, the speed limit is 25 mph. Swampscott joins Danvers, Beverly, Peabody, and other nearby towns in reducing the automatic speed limit, after recent state legislation passed to allow municipalities to reduce it at their discretion.
