Toto the Tornado Kitten is Coming to Swampscott

Though this cat can't talk, his owner helped him tell his story in the children's book "Toto the Tornado Kitten."

Swampscott Public Library will welcome a cat named Toto the children’s room on Wednesday, April 22, for a special storytime.

The tornado that struck Western Massachusetts in June 2011 left a path of destruction in its wake and a very tiny kitten without a home. That kitten was dropped off at the Brimfield Fire Station with Jonathan Hall, who was on duty with Brimfield Ambulance at the time.

After being nursed back to health, the 6-ounce kitten named Toto was adopted by Hall and his wife. Now Toto is a full-grown cat and the star of the children’s book “Toto the Tornado Kitten.”

Hall and Toto will read the book during storytime at 3 p.m. on April 22 and Toto will be available to ”pawtograph” books. Children ages 4 and up are invited and asked to bring a donation of canned or dried cat food to be given to a local shelter.
