Unemployment Scam Targets Swampscott Residents

Swampscott police said they've been getting daily calls from residents being asked for sensitive information over the phone.

SWAMPSCOTT, MA —Swampscott police are reporting a rash of cases where residents say they were targeted in an apparent unemployment scam.

Police said they are getting "daily reports" of the scam.

Police urged residents not to give out sensitive personal information over the phone and to call the department at 781-595-1111 if they believe they might have been a victim of a scam.

Those who believe they have had an unemployment claim falsely made on their behalf are asked to report the claim to the state's Department of Unemployment Assistance fraud department here or call the Department of Unemployment Assistance at 877-626-6800.
