Welcome To Swampscott Sign Frame Getting a Facelift
The work is being done for free by Derek Peterson's company Sequioa Builders of Lynn.

Builder Derek Peterson noticed the Welcome to Swampscott sign needed work each time he walked by it with his dog above Kings Beach.
So when Swampscott Selectman Glenn Kessler called the builder about renovating the sign, the owner of Sequoia Builders was all for the project.
Last week, Peterson and crew members pulled off the hard plastic covering from the Swampscott dory painting. They pulled out the painting sections.Â
Now they will rebuild the sign frame at their shop, hoping to have the work complete by early January.
The builder, who grew up in town and went to the old Swampscott High School, is donating his time and materials to give the sign frame new life.
Meanwhile, the Sequioa crew delivered the painting to Swampscott High art teacher Anita Balliro, Selectman Kessler said.
About 13 years ago the art teacher worked with her students to create the dory picture and mosaic on the back side, he said.
"She will be rehabbing both the dory painting (which is in remarkably well preserved condition) as well as the mosaic that will be put on display at the high school," Kessler said.
After the painting is repaired it will return to the Welcome to Swampscott sign.
As far as the back side of the sign we will have more information about plans for that space in a future article.
