Average Tewksbury Tax Bill To Increase $231 In FY2021

The average single-family home increased in value by about 5 percent, officials said.

TEWKSBURY, MA — The average single family home's tax bill will increase by $223 in Fiscal Year 2021, after the selectmen set the tax shift Tuesday.

Residential property values increased a modest amount in Tewksbury, with the median single family home being valued at $454,977, up 5 percent. The median tax bill will be $7,152.

The selectmen voted for a 1.56 commercial tax shift, meaning commercial property owners will pay 156 percent of what they would if there was a uniform rate. Residential homes will be taxed at a rate of 15.72 mills, down from 15.97 in Fiscal Year 2020.

With the 1.56 shift, the average condo bill will decline $28 and the average commercial bill will decline $141. Residential property owners will pay just under three-quarters of the tax burden.

The town manager recommended the 1.56 shift. The board voted 4-1 in favor, with Chairman Jay Kelly preferring a 1.58 shift, which would result in a slightly smaller residential increase and a small commercial increase.
