Boston Marathon Security: What Not to Bring

Boston Marathon spectators: what not to bring and what to expect from security at the 2016 Boston Marathon.

TEWKSBURY, MA - Spectators watching this year's Boston Marathon should expect a heavy police presence, and be prepared for delays and what police call "enhanced screening" at security checkpoints if they bring any from a short list of discouraged items.

Police ask that spectators carry items in clear, plastic bags wherever they are watching on the 26.2-mile course. Law enforcement or contracted private security forces may ask to inspect bags or other items you are carrying.
