Citizen Police Academy Registration Ends Friday

The Citizen Police Academy is offered to all residents 18 years of age or older and the next one runs April 6 through graduation on May 25.

TEWKSBURY, MA - This Friday, March 25 is the last day to register if you want to participate in the Tewksbury Police Department's Annual Citizen Police Academy.

The Annual Citizen Police Academy starts April 6 and runs for eight weeks with participants graduating on May 25. Here's everything you need to know if you want to attend this year's Citizen Police Academy:

What is the Tewksbury Citizen Police Academy?

The Citizen Academy is a series of classes sponsored by the Tewksbury Police Department. It’s designed to educate attendees about the Tewksbury Police Department, its organization, operations, and role in the community.

Participants are instructed by members of the department as to the responsibilities of their various units. Citizens gain an understanding of the challenges facing law enforcement in today’s world. Students are given the opportunity not only to learn, but to offer ideas and solutions. The goal of the academy is to develop a unique partnership between citizens and their police department in a way that benefits both.

Who Can Attend?

The Tewksbury Police Department Citizen Police Academy is offered to all residents 18 years of age or older. Participants MUST not have a criminal history. A background check is conducted on all applicants. Candidates must be able to commit to the class schedule. Only one excused absence will be allowed in order to graduate and receive a Certificate of Completion.

How Long Does the Citizen Police Academy Run?

The next Citizen Police Academy begins April 6 and continues through graduation on May 25. The Academy is held at the Tewksbury Police Department. Classes run for eight weeks from 7-9 p.m. each Wednesday night.

Topics may include, but are not limited to: Criminal Law and Investigations, Domestic Violence, Motor Vehicle Law, Identity Theft, Internet Safety, K9, Firearm Scenario Training and more…
