George Kuegler Receives Worcester Polytechnic Institute's 2016 Provost's MQP Award

TEWKSBURY, MA - Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) recently announced that George Kuegler of Tewksbury, a member of the class of 2016, has received the Provost's MQP (Major Qualifying Project) Award for the chemical engineering department. Kuegler was recognized for a project titled "Electrode Development of a Lactate Biosensor." The annual award recognizes the most outstanding MQPs completed by WPI students.

All WPI students complete two significant research projects, one in their major field and one at the intersection between science and technology and current societal issues. WPI believes that to become the best engineers and scientists, students should have a broad understanding of the cultural and social contexts of their fields, which will make them more effective and socially responsible practitioners and citizens.

The MQP, typically completed in the senior year, is a high-level design or research experience in the student's major field. In the engineering disciplines, many of these design projects are completed in small teams with a faculty advisor. In the sciences, many of these projects are completed by undergraduates working closely in the faculty advisor's research lab. Some MQPs are completed at off-campus project centers for external sponsors, often corporations.
