Gerber Baby Food Recall: 'Organic 2nd Foods' Pouches Pulled

The voluntary recall affects Gerber's Organic 2nd Foods Pouches and is due to a packing defect.

Gerber, the popular baby food-maker, announced a voluntary recall Thursday for four batches of its "Organic 2nd Foods" pouches because of a packaging defect that could cause the product to spoil and possibly sicken babies who eat it.

No other Gerber baby foods or pouch products are affected, Gerber says.

"Because of our commitment to high quality, Gerber is working to retrieve from retailers and online stores the remaining pouches from the four affected batches of GERBER® Organic 2ND FOOD pouches that fail to meet our quality standards," a Gerber press release posted on the FDA's website says.

The affected pouches may look "bloated" and the food inside could have an "off taste or odor," Gerber says.

The company said it has received three reports of "temporary gastrointestinal symptoms" that may be related to the food.
