TEWKSBURY, MA — Newton Ave. was shut down at Main St. Wednesday after an early-morning water main break opened a giant hole, swallowing the entire road. Water service to Newton Ave. residents in the area was also affected.

Police said the public works department was on the scene, but there was no timeline for return to normal service or reopening the road. In an emergency, they can route vehicles around the road through a parking lot.
