Jackson was not one of the final four candidates for the position. He was a candidate early in the search process, but withdrew his name, because he believed the Committee was looking for a long-term superintendent.
After the Committee suspended their search for in early April, to look for new candidates, Chair Patricia Meuse asked Jackson if he was interested in a shorter contract, and he agreed.

Multiple members said they were not happy with the process of bringing Jackson forward for an interview without going through the normal process, but other members said they wanted to get a superintendent in place quickly, given the situation with the new coronavirus school closure.
Former Superintendent Tim Broadrick left the district at the end of last school year.
