John Edward Shields IV, 72, of Tewksbury

John was a retired draftsman who was raised in Tewksbury and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School Class of 1961.

TEWKSBURY, MA - John Edward Shields IV, age 72, died peacefully at his Tewksbury home, on Saturday morning, April 23, in the loving care of his family and hospice, after a long and courageous battle with Emphysema.

He was born in Malden in August 1943, one of three children of the late Dorothy (Farr) and John E. Shields III, and raised in Tewksbury. He graduated T.M.H.S. with the Class of 1961.

John worked as a draftsman for several area companies including Pope, Polaroid, T.A.G. and High Voltage Engineering before his retirement.

He was a member of the Rocky Club in Lawrence, and enjoyed all New England’s sports teams, especially the Red Sox.

He leaves four children, Kathleen Murphy and her husband Robert, John E. Shields V and his wife Karla (Tibbitts), all of Billerica, Barbara J. Barnaby and her husband Thomas, and Randy Allen Shields all of Tewksbury; a brother, Richard C. Shields and his wife Janet (Thornton) of Lawrence; a sister, Candace Ryan and her husband Robert of Tewksbury; fifteen grandchildren, Shannon Eosco, Pauline Murphy, Robert Murphy Jr., John E. Shields VI, all of Billerica, Matthew Champagne of Leominster, Robert Champagne of Bedford, Heather A. Hembree, Joshua Barnaby, Ashley Barnaby, Nickolas Barnaby all of Derry, NH, James Hembree, Dennis Barnaby both of Tewksbury, John Hembree U.S. Navy of VA, Camron Perry U.S.A.F. of NM, and Kryslin Shields of Hudson, NH; thirteen great grandchildren, Mila, Olivia, Isaac, Mason, Thomas, Ricky, Brayden, Wesley, Justice, Aubrey, Bradley, Wyatt, and A.J.; many nieces and nephews; and was the former husband of Margaret A. (Trainor) Fedus of Billerica, and Linda B. (Joyce) Shields of Salem, NH.

Visiting hours Tuesday, April 26, from 4-7 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey St. and 975 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury Center. His funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Burial in Tewksbury Cemetery will be private.
