Lowell City Auditor Resigns: Report

Susan Hickey stepped down from the job shortly after being put on paid administrative leave for excessive absences, The Sun reports.

LOWELL, MA — Lowell officials will soon have to hire a new city auditor after their current one resigned Friday.

According to The Sun, Susan Hickey submitted her letter of resignation to Mayor John Leahy less than a week after being put on paid administrative leave for excessive absences.

The city's website now shows Sheryl Wright, its former city auditor, overseeing the department in the interim.

As city auditor, Hickey was responsible for formulating policies, coordinating audits and accounting procedures as well as preparing annual budgets.

She reported directly to city council.

In the past, the position has paid between $100,000-$113,000 a year, according to a job listing on the Massachusetts Municipal Association.
