Burn Boston Burn: Inside The Largest Arson Case In US History ON ZOOM (*RR)
Tuesday, December 1, 7pm
Author Wayne Miller will discuss his new book, "Burn Boston Burn: The Story of the Largest Arson Case in the History of the Country." Relive how a conspiracy of nine men, including three Boston cops and a Boston firefighter, burned Boston and surrounding communities in the early 1980s. Their arson destroyed 264 buildings, causing millions in damages and hundreds of injuries. Their motive? Tax-cutting measures that caused layoffs of hundreds of police and firefighters. Miller investigated the case as a Special Agent, Criminal Investigator and Certified Fire Investigator for the U. S. Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. During his 25-year career, he has examined more than 2,300 fire and explosion scenes, responded to over 25 major incidents, and testified as an expert in more than 40 cases in Federal and State courts in civil and criminal cases. "Burn Boston Burn" is his first book. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Laugher Circle ON FACEBOOK LIVE
Wednesday, December 2, 12:00pm
This program combines voluntary laughter exercises with gentle breathing techniques to teach the body how to laugh without relying on jokes or humor. This is a participatory program where we will create moments to laugh in through guided actions. No need to bring a yoga mat--most of the program is seated, with options for standing or gentle movement. What are the benefits of laughter? Mood elevates. Stress, depression and tension decrease. Immunity improves. Lung capacity increases through deep breathing, enhancing oxygen delivery to all parts of the body. Endorphin and serotonin levels rise. Laughter provides an excellent internal massage to digestive tract as well as improving blood supply to the internal organs. People who laugh don’t worry as much as people who don’t laugh. Session will last about 30 minutes. This program is for all ages.

The Factory Witches Of Lowell with C.S. Malerich ON ZOOM (*RR)
Saturday, December 5, 2pm
Author C.S. Malerich will discuss her brand new novel, The Factory Witches of Lowell, a riveting historical fantasy about witches going on strike in the mill-town of Lowell, Massachusetts. Faced with abominable working conditions, unsympathetic owners, and hard-hearted managers, the mill girls of Lowell have had enough. They're going on strike, and they have a secret weapon on their side: a little witchcraft to ensure that no one leaves the picket line. For the young women of Lowell, freedom means fair wages for fair work, decent room and board, and a chance to escape the cotton mills before lint stops up their lungs. When the Boston owners decide to raise the workers’ rent, the girls go on strike. Their ringleader is Judith Whittier, a newcomer to Lowell but not to class warfare. Judith has already seen one strike fold and she doesn’t intend to see it again. Fortunately Hannah, her best friend in the boardinghouse—and maybe first love?—has a gift for the dying art of witchcraft. This program is a collaboration between the Tewksbury Public Library and the Pollard Memorial Library in Lowell.
