"Erin Morrissey put together the meet of her life today," said Coach John Byrnes. "She anchored the winning 4x100, PR'd in the 100, and won the long jump."

Byrnes said one of the keys to the victory was not allowing the Middies to score too many points in the distance events.

"Dracut's one of the strongest teams in the state in the distance events, and they did win all three of those events, but Rachel Eatherton and Becca Davies kept us competitve there, and we were able to grab he first place points in the other 13 events," said Byrnes. "That was the difference."

Boys Track

Tewksbury 74, Dracut 71

The Tewksbury boys track team needed an outstanding all-around effort to stay unbeaten with a thrilling 74-71 vctory over Dracut.

"I learned a lot about our team today. They showed a ton of fight," said Coach Bill Meuse. "When things were kind of not going our way, some of our athletes stepped up in a big way to change the momentum."

Meuse said the key performance of the day was turned in by Ryan Hartnett, who squeezed out a victory in the 200.

"He was neck to neck with the Dracut runner until the final 50 meters and you could tell Ryan just wanted it more," said Meuse. "If he did not win that race, we may have not won the meet. Ryan has come up clutch the last few meets and he deserves all this success."

Joe Poli notched a win in the 100 with a personal best time of 11.5. Cory Cataldo continued his exceptional season, scoring a win in the 400 with a personal best of 51.4

"Coach Nevetta is doing such a great job with all these (sprinters) and it showed today," said Meuse.

Tewksbury dominated the distance events. Cory Thomas took wins in the mile and the 800, while Brian Amaral earned the victory in the two-mile.

"We also got huge 3rd places finishes from Anthony Darrigo (two-mile) and Mike Famiglietti (mile)," said Meuse. "The two elder statesmen did what they had to do to win their events while their younger teammates continue to learn from them and produce."
Kevin Jones, coming off an injured ankle, and Andrew Nguyen scored a 1-2 finish in the 11 hurdles.
Blake Hery had to run the 400 Hurdles without his teammate Catlado, however Blake held his own finishing second with a career best 60.4.

"Blake is one of the toughest kids I have ever met," said Meuse. "He will do anything for his teammates and coaches. Blake Hery defines Tewksbury Track. He will do whatever it takes to help his team, No questions asked."

Cory Cataldo took first in the triple jump. Mike Charbonneau turned in a career best of 10-0 feet in the pole vault.
Fiorello had another strong day in the throwing events for the Redmen. He was second in the javelin and won the shot put.
