Russell Edward Long Sr., 74, of Tewksbury

Russell retired from Tewksbury Hospital as a department head for the Housekeeping Department.

TEWKSBURY, MA - Russell Edward Long Sr., age 74, died peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, April 20, at Blairehouse of Tewksbury, following a long period of declining health. He was the husband of the Ruthann (LeBlanc) Long.

He was born in Boston, one of five children of the late Norman and Irene (Hoy) Long. He served in the U.S. Army in the early 1960’s where he sustained a lifelong disability in a parachuting training mission. In spite of his disability, he worked in the housekeeping department at Tewksbury Hospital, and retired from the hospital as Department Head for the Housekeeping Department.

Besides his wife, he leaves two children, Colleen Ferreira of Milford, NH, and Russell E. Long Jr., and his wife Maureen (Larkin) of Lowell; three granddaughters, Felisha, Katrina, and Christine; two great grandsons, Jayden and John; his siblings, Susan Brooks and her husband Tom of Chelmsford, Norman Long Jr. and his wife Susan of Lowell, Patricia Long of Lowell, Carol LeBlanc and her husband Paul of Tyngsboro; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, John Long.

A memorial graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 27, at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, East Chelmsford. Arrangements were through the Tewksbury Funeral Home.
