State Police Bomb Squad En Route to Tewksbury for Suspicious Package
A half mile of Shawsheen Street is shut down.

The State Police Bomb Squad was called to Tewksbury Monday evening after a suspicious backpack was spotted on the railroad tracks near 1600 Shawsheen St.
The backpack was reported to police at about 6:45 p.m.
Shawsheen Street was shut down from East Street to Vale Street, approximately a half mile, as police created a perimeter at the scene, according to a Tewksbury Police spokesman.

A Code Red message has been sent out, informing residents in the vicinity about the situation. Law enforcement officials at the scene are being advised to limit cell phone use.
Residents are free to leave their homes. However, they will not be allowed to travel by foot or vehicle near the scene.
