Laughter Circle on ZOOM
Monday, October 19, noon
This program is for all ages. This program combines voluntary laughter exercises with gentle breathing techniques to teach the body how to laugh without relying on jokes or humor. This is a participatory program where we will create moments to laugh in through guided actions. No need to bring a yoga mat--most of the program is seated, with options for standing or gentle movement. What are the benefits of laughter? Mood elevates. Stress, depression and tension decrease. Immunity improves. Lung capacity increases through deep breathing, enhancing oxygen delivery to all parts of the body. Endorphin and serotonin levels rise. Laughter provides an excellent internal massage to digestive tract as well as improving blood supply to the internal organs. People who laugh don’t worry as much as people who don’t laugh. Session will last about 30 minutes. Email Noelle Boc at nboc@tewksburypl.org to register.
Tewksbury Writing Group ON ZOOM
Tuesday, October 20, 7pm
Are you a writer -- or an aspiring writer -- looking for some support? The new Tewksbury Writing Group, which meets the third Tuesday evening of every month, is open to everyone who's interested in writing -- all genres, all skill levels. Each meeting -- which will take place via Zoom -- consists of some conversation, followed by a period of reading & friendly critiquing, and then a guest speaker (typically a published author) offering some tips of the trade. The group will be facilitated by author Dale T. Phillips, who has published novels, story collections, non-fiction, and over 70 short stories. Stephen King was Dale's college writing teacher, and since then, Dale has found time to appear on stage, television, radio, in an independent feature film, and compete on Jeopardy (losing in a spectacular fashion). He's a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the Sisters in Crime. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Register HERE.

Both in the designed landscape and in the wild, plants thrive or die within a wide variety of conditions, often surprising us with either outcome. In this class, we’ll talk about some of the New England native plants that have shown themselves to be especially tough in a variety of conditions. Led by Amy Nyman, a landscape designer and owner of Ruby Leaf Design, LLC. The Tewksbury Public Library has partnered with area museums, aquariums, and zoos to host virtual learning opportunities every Thursday, from September 10 through November 19. This M.A.Z.E.
