Tewksbury Overpowers Cocord-Carlisle 42-7 In Football Playoff

Tewksbury Quarterback Jay Connolly rushed for three two touchdowns and threw for two more, setting up Saturday's tilt with Danvers.

TEWKSBURY, MA -- The Tewsbury Memorial High School football team will host Danvers (6-2) in the semi-finals of the Division 3 North playoffs on November 4 at 2 pm after beating Concord-Carlisle (2-6) 42-7 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, second-seeded Tewksbury improves to 7-1. Redmen Quarterback Jay Connolly had three rushing touchdowns and threw for two more.

Connolly broke a scoreless tie early in the second quarter when he connected with Masyn Lorick. Concord-Carlisle tied the game at 7-7 with a long touchdown pass moments later, but the Redmen took the led for good moments after Brandon Winn brought the kickoff deep into Concord-Carlisle territory. Will Matovu carried the ball to the Tewksbury 5-yard line, setting up a five-yard touchdown run by Shane Darrigo on the next play.

An 11-yard Connolly touchdown run to give Tewksbury a 21-7 halftime lead. The teams traded punts to open the second half, but a Blake Hiltz interception deep in Concord-Carlisle set up Connolly's second rushing touchdown of the afternoon and gave Tewksbury a 28-7 lead.

In the fourth quarter Connolly added another rushing TD. Tewksbury capped the afternoon when Shane Aylward broke free for an 85-yard touchdown run.

Sixth-seeded Danvers defeated third-seeded Lynn Classical (6-2) 21-7 Friday night. The winner of the Danvers-Tewksbury game will play the winner of Firday's game between Lynn English (8-0) and Billerica (5-3) in the Division 3 North final.
