Tewksbury Police Arrest Man And Charge With Assault And Battery

Police said the 40-year-old man pepper-sprayed a taxi driver to dodge a fare.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury police arrested a Methuen man Sunday and charged him with assault, the department said.

The police received a 911 call from a taxi driver who told responding officers he was sprayed in the face with pepper spray who didn't want to pay their fare.

The suspect allegedly escaped after spraying the driver, police said.

Tewksbury and Methuen police investigated and Thomas Miele, 40, of Methuen was arrested.

He was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and evading taxi fare. He was due to be arraigned at Lowell District Court Monday.

All people are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
