Tewksbury Police to Crack Down on Impaired Driving During 'Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over' Campaign

The increased search for impaired drivers is underway and lasts through September 1.

The Tewksbury Police Department announced this week that it will join 148 law enforcement agencies from around Massachusetts as a part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over mobilization aimed at cutting down on impaired driving.

Tewksbury’s crackdown is underway and will take place through September 1. The effort is funded by a federal grant through the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division.

During the mobilization, Tewksbury officers will be “aggressively looking for all impaired drivers.” Police also added that their search for impaired drivers will take place regardless of age, vehicle type or time of day.

According to a press release announcing the mobilization, police said impaired driving is one of America’s most often and deadliest crimes. Statistics show, according to police, that in 2012 in Massachusetts 123 people were killed in crashes that involved drivers with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher.

“Our message is simple and unwavering: if we find you driving impaired, we will arrest you, no exceptions,” said Tewksbury Police. “Even if you beat the odds and manage to walk away from an impaired-driving crash alive, the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for driving while impaired can still destroy your life.”
