Market Basket Worker Injured In Tewksbury Electrical Accident

The man was reportedly conscious when he was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital by MedFlight Monday morning.

TEWKSBURY, MA -- A 56-year-old man working on a generator for a refrigerator at Market Basket in Tewksbury was severely burned during an accident Monday morning. The man was conscious as he was transported by MedFlight to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with burns to his head and face, according to police.

The accident at 10:45 am caused a power outage at the store, which was only accepting cash or checks as crews tried to restore power. The outage may have extended to other areas of the Oakdale section of Tewksbury Monday morning.

At 2 pm, National Grid was reporting that that 20 of its customers in Tewksbury were affected by the outage. Estimates from National Grid said service should be restored by 9:15 pm, which is later than a noon update that said service would be restored by 6 pm and only five customers were affected.

Monday's outage came less than 12 hours after National Grid restored service to all of its 12,947 customers in Tewksbury. At its peak, more than 10,000 Tewksbury customers were without power. While most had power restored over the weekend, some customers waited until after midnight Sunday night for the lights to come back on.
