Adult Events
Dinner & A Movie: Jackie (*RR)
Friday, May 5, 8pm
Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood's newest DVD releases -- Jackie, a critically acclaimed drama starring Natalie Portman. The film received 3 Academy Award nominations this year, including one for Best Lead Actress. Following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy fights through grief and trauma to regain her faith, console her children, and define her husband’s historic legacy. Rated R. 100 minutes. 89% positive critics rating. Doors will open at 7:30pm. Pizza will be served from 7:30pm to 8pm. A $2 donation is suggested. The film will begin at 8pm. Can’t make it at 8pm? The film will also be screened earlier in the day at 10:30am.

Community Table: Relay For Life of Wilmington-Billerica
Saturday, May 6, 10am-1pm
Come learn about the Relay For Life of Wilmington-Billerica, which takes place on Friday, June 16 at Wilmington High School. The event is open to Tewksbury residents. Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The events bring communities together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer.
Vegetable Gardening 101 with Suzanne Crooker (*RR)
Saturday, May 6, 2pm
Join gardening instructor Suzanne Crooker to learn how to start and sustain a vegetable garden. Crooker will discuss soil conditioning; planting and harvesting schedule; fertilizing techniques; and insect and disease identification and controls. Crooker recently retried from the vegetable department at Mahoney’s, where she worked for ten years and regularly taught gardening classes. Want to learn about and possibly get involved with the library's Community Garden? Members of the Garden Committee will be on hand after the talk to answer questions and give garden tours.
Monday Morning Concert: Knock On Wood (*RR)
Monday, May 8, 10:30am
Enjoy a 60-minute concert with Knock on Wood, a high-energy acoustic folk-rock duo, featuring singer-songwriter Howie Newman and Joe Kessler. Combining acoustic guitar with fiddle, mandolin and pleasing vocal harmonies, the duo performs covers and funny original music. It’s a very lively show with great musicianship and a little humor. One of the most engaging performers on the local music circuit, Newman combines music, comedy and audience participation to provide a truly unique entertainment experience. Kessler, who plays fiddle and mandolin, has an energetic improvisational style that includes folk, rock, jazz and bluegrass. He is also an outstanding backup vocalist. Munchkins and coffee will be served.
Tewksbury Job Seekers: How To Unlock Your Job Search (*RR)

Learning how to maintain a healthy balance between your job search and the rest of your life. This interactive discussion will teach you how to prioritize your job search strategies while implementing a personal balance that will inspire healthy results” Led by Dusty McNeal, a recruitment specialist with more than 20 years of Human Resources experience. Over the past 6 years, McNeal has recruited employees for the Wilmington-based Securitas Security Services, partnering with many of the Fortune 100 companies in the area.
Author Visit: The Saturday Evening Girls Club with Jane Healey (*RR)

Author Jane Healey will discuss her new book, The Saturday Evening Girls Club: A Novel. For four young immigrant women living in Boston’s North End in the early 1900s, escaping tradition doesn’t come easy. But at least they have one another and the Saturday Evening Girls Club, a social pottery-making group offering respite from their hectic home lives—and hope for a better future. Flower Arranging 101 with The Power of Flowers Project (*RR)

Bring some spring color into your life by learning about the basics of flower arranging! The Power of Flowers Project will lead this workshop, guiding you through simple steps to create a beautiful arrangement. The Power of Flowers Project is dedicated to enriching the lives of those who are lonely, isolated, or ill, by harnessing the power of flowers to lift spirits and promote healing. They do this by renewing and refreshing gently used flowers recycled from weddings, banquets, memorial services, etc.-- any event where flowers are often left behind or tossed in the trash while they are still fresh. The new arrangements are then delivered to recipients chosen through a variety of community resources. Adult Non-Fiction Book Club: Massacre on the Merrimack (*RR)

Join us on the second Thursday of each month in the Trustees Room for stimulating discussion of a variety of non-fiction books. In May, we will discuss Massacre on the Merrimack: Hannah Duston's Captivity and Revenge in Colonial America by Jay Atkinson. Books are available at the library’s second-floor Reference Desk.
Author Visit: How Emotions Are Made with Lisa Feldman Barrett (*RR)

Author Lisa Feldman Barrett will discuss her new book, How Emotions Are Made: The Secret Life of the Brain. Explore a new theory of how the brain constructs emotions that could revolutionize psychology, health care, the legal system, and our understanding of the human mind. Lisa Feldman Barrett PhD, is a University Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Northeastern University, with appointments at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Psychiatry and Radiology. She received a National Institutes of Health Director's Pioneer Award for her groundbreaking research on emotion in the brain. Q&A and book selling and signing after the event for those interested.

Tiny Tykes Story Time

Join Miss Heather for some early literacy fun, including stories, songs, fingerplays, lap bounces and more! There are two sessions: 10:15am and 11:00am. Please note that the 11am session is a repeat of the earlier session. For babies ages 0 months through 18 months. There is no registration required, however, space is limited in the room. Please stop by the Children's Room desk to pick up a token for entry into the story time.
Story Time Stations
Tuesday, May 9, 11am
Join Miss Noelle and Miss Debbie (from Community Teamwork) for story plus playtime! Each month features a different classic tale which we will read, then families are free to move as they would like among several different stations that include crafts, math, science, gross or fine motor skills and more to have fun with based on the story. We'll clean up and come all back together at the end for one more activity together. For ages 3 to 6. Older or younger siblings are always welcome!
Pajama Story Time
Tuesday, May 9, 7pm
Put on your pjs and join Miss Heather for a rollicking story time before bed! Stories, songs, dancing and more! Pajamas aren't required, but we'll have ours on! For ages to 3 to 7. Older and younger siblings are always welcome.
Dance Party
Wednesday, May 10, 10:30am-11:15am
Come put on your boogie shoes and learn the dance moves to songs by the Wiggles with Miss Noelle. First we learn the moves, then we dance the dance. For ages 1 to 6. Older and younger siblings are always welcome.
Wiggle Time

Want to get involved at your library? Plan fun teen events? Build the teen collection? Meet new friends? Earn community service hours? Join the Teen Advisory Group! At TAG, we meet monthly, enjoy pizza, and participate in a fun activity. Bring friends as new members are welcome. For teens in Grades 6-12.
