Launched by Governor Charlie Baker in 2017, the Housing Choice Initiative was initiated to increase housing production by empowering municipalities to lead on local development. The program includes technical assistance, a community designation with access to capital grant programs, and legislation making targeted zoning reforms, the latter signed into law in January 2021. The initiative was introduced with the goal to support the production of 135,000 new housing units by 2025.
The project was selected for submittal by the Town’s Engineering Division and the Community Development Department to extend the sidewalks on Main Street beyond the current 1.5 mile Mass DOT project on Route 38, from Old Boston Road to Colonial Drive. The $5.7 million resurfacing and sidewalk project is scheduled to be advertised in September 2021, with construction to beginning in Spring 2022.
